As almost everybody worldwide approaches that one day of the year where scary and violent is the staple for almost every movie, we give you a mini-tribute to Halloween ourselves – the top 5 bloodiest and goriest Android games you could ever install on your device. We’ll rate them for you from 1 to 5 on the gore factor, as you should be able to install these just for that one day of the year where you can play these games without being disturbed.

Postal (via Amazon Appstore)

This game gained notoriety when it was released in 1997, and for all intents and purposes it was a fairly unremarkable game. But the storyline is unique in that it invites gore and violence – a citizen who has gone “postal”, flipped out and basically just starts killing anyone that isn’t him. As you can imagine, that invitation to “gratuitous violence” has raised the eyebrows of some – very notably the Google Play Store, which has refused to allow this game on its lists. Don’t you worry though, Postal – recreated for Android – is available via the Amazon Appstore, and you can still play it in all its bloody glory.

Surgeon Simulator

Despite the medical nature of the title of this game, it is not at all medical in the way you play it. The game forces anyone who plays it to become a surgeon, but you have to do your surgery with all manner of err… shall we say, “inappropriate” tools. Need your hands or legs replaced? Well, no problem – but first let me hack your old limbs off with a hacksaw. As you can imagine, this game may be funny in nature, but it is gory beyond all detail.

Carmaggedon

That title alone should give you the idea of what this game is all about. It’s a freeform driving game, this means you driver wherever you want to within the game – but the game disturbingly encourages you to hit every pedestrian you see. It give you bonus points for those “hits”, you see, and so what starts out as a driving game becomes a bloody mess. You can even hit the cows and see those disintegrate in a bloody explosion. What kind of game makes you hit cows?

Dead Trigger 2

This has been voted by many in the gaming industry as probably the best zombie shooter ever, and Madfinger Games has gained a lot of gamer points from making this game. The outfit has produced a number of other games these days, but Dead Trigger 2 will remain in our memories for a while. The blood in the game mostly comes from zombies, and for zombie shooting games, that gore is the good kind. You can blast their heads off with high powered rifles and guns, or hurl a grenade over and enjoy the explosion of blood and severed zombie limbs.

Dead Space

This wouldn’t be a complete list of gory games if we didn’t include EA Games’ sci-fi horror mashup. Dead Space is cleverly imagined, a zombie horror-fest in outer space. The game has received some bad rep for having wonky controls on Android, but you can’t really deny the gore in the game. Imagine using a plasma saw to cut through hordes of Necromorphs and just deal glorious bloody damage to all of your undead opponents. You might find obvious satisfaction there, but you can’t deny its bloody violence.

You can choose from among 12 different ones, including meteors, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes (now you understand why the need for quotation marks on miracles). And did we mention that you have to do this in just a five minute blitz? So basically, it really is Civilization on steroids.

You have 18 different civilizations to choose from, all of which you can control and lead to victory (if the enemy doesn’t decimate them of course). And you can actually choose to play against 3 of your friends who are also online or even on local wifi. But you can also try to go against strangers of course, so you won’t feel bad when you send a plague upon their houses. But at the end of the day, it’s how fast you strategize and how quickly you can implement these strategies that will win you the 5-minute game.

While devices are getting smarter and smarter (and some may even be smarter than their human being), it seems like their batteries and their chargers are still left behind the “dark ages” (we mean, like 5 years behind their time). And so when products that plan to improve our charging lives come along, we sit up and pay attention. A Kickstarter campaign called UsBidi says they are the most intelligent charger ever!

So what makes this charger so smart? For one thing, when you’re fully charged, it will shut off the charging circuit so that your device will not overheat or won’t have those mini-charging cycles that contributes to the damage to your battery capacity. So even if you leave your smartphone or tablet charging overnight, it will not become “stressed” even if it’s plugged in. It also charges your phone twice as fast because it has the ability to stop data syncing so that it will focus solely on giving your phone or tablet juice.

It is also “stylish”, well as stylish as a charger can get. It has magnetic ends so you can stick it in places where magnets stick, and keeping it “mess free”. It also has a colorful, braided exterior so it can stand out from the plain colored default chargers and comes in 1, 3, or 6 feet options. It also has an LED indicator so that you can see your charging status at a glance.

The UsBidi has more than reached its $35,000 goal, showing that people are really hankering for a product like this. There are still 35 days to go for the campaign so if you feel like supporting it and getting the charger in return, do so before it ends.

Baba giving Android gyan: Find your grandfather Beneath the Lighthouse, now out on Android

If one of your family members or a loved one suddenly goes missing, how far would you go to find them? Well, you’d probably file a missing person report with the police, but what if you knew where to look, but you also know that it’s dangerous? That’s the dilemma facing our hero, a little boy, in Beneath the Lighthouse, an action-puzzler now available for Android devices. It’s a cute little game from Nitrome, which has made its name in creating well-received indie games, mostly in pixel form.

Early reviews for the game are pretty positive, and if you like simple but complicated puzzlers, then this one is for you. A little boy is in search for his grandfather, who used to be the sole guard at a lighthouse. But now you have to go, well, beneath the lighthouse, in order to find out what happened to him. You need to move the kid through circular levels and try not to get him decapitated by the blades and spikes or crushed by the blocks that are in the levels.

This “serene puzzle action game” has pretty cute graphics and is seemingly simple at first. But like a lot of games like this, it becomes more complicated (and maybe frustrating) as the game goes on. But that’s where your perseverance and creativity comes into play, as getting the boy through all the mechanisms isn’t really that easy.

Baba giving Android gyan: Escape and survive the crazies in Sanitarium, now out on Android

Aside from a house full of clowns (shivers!), is there anything more terrifying than an insane asylum? We’ve seen from a lot of movies and even a whole season of American Horror Story (the Asylum anthology of course), that dealing with haunted places where mentally ill, and possibly psychotic people roam the corridors (not that all mentally ill people are scary, mind you) is no laughing matter. A new game on Android called Sanitarium brings you to this scariest of places, just in time for Halloween.

Sanitarium is actually an old PC game from the late 90s, but now brought back to terrifying life by the folks at DotEmu. Just like the original version, it is a point and click adventure game where you end up at a creepy asylum after an accident that robbed you of your memory. As you try to make sense of everything, sometimes what’s real (which is scary enough) bleeds into what’s in your imagination, and it leads to your death sometimes. The good thing in this game is you can actually start over every time that happens.

The game has a great easy-to-use interface that is optimized for touch devices. But you can choose to play either on touch mode or on pad mode as well. It has an automatic save system so that if the real world actually interferes with your game, you can still continue where you left. There are 20 achievements that you can unlock and you can choose between full screen mode and original mode.

Baba giving Android gyan: Alcatel OneTouch to release Fierce XL smartphone by next week

The holiday season is almost upon us and so that means that even more smartphones and tablets and gadgets will be flooding the market, all hoping to be your very special Christmas gift to a loved one or to yourself. Alcatel OneTouch may not be a top of mind brand anymore, but that doesn’t mean they can’t come up with devices that cannot compete with the Samsungs and LGs and Huaweis of this world. Their newest one, the Fierce XL LTE smartphone wants to challenge the others in its class.

More than just its specs, like a 5.5-inch HD IPS display and a 1.1GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 210 Quad-Core Processor, the Fierce XL also has two things going for it: Google’s enhanced Translate features and a partnership with Polaroid for an exclusive photo editing software. You can also add date, location, and other text to the photo as well as customized layouts. As for Google Translate, you can translate to and from 89 languages through speaking, writing or even scanning a sign or text using the smartphone’s camera.

The Fierce XL will be available at select Metro PCS stores in the US as well as through its online store starting this November 2, with the SRP at $139. It will also soon be available through T-Mobile later this year.

Baba giving Android gyan: Lithium-air can be the ‘ultimate’ battery, says Cambridge researchers

There seems to be a move to make batteries stay longer than ever. We've heard of numerous scientific efforts already. The most recent we featured was the work of Waterloo researchers who discovered that using silicone anode materials instead of graphite anodes allowed them to create a low-cost battery that it also lighter and more powerful. We know Samsung has started to be aggressive by introducing new batteries at this month's InterBattery event after months of working on a new battery technology.

There was a study before that gave the idea that solid-state electrolytes could improve batteries. Of course, let's not forget that lithium-ion battery that can be recharged by sunlight.  This time, another lithium battery related study was conducted by Cambridge University researchers. They were able to make a lithium-air battery (still a laboratory model) that can be recharged over 2,000 times and has a high density.

The researchers published the paper that features their work about the possibility of lithium-air batteries replacing lithium-ions. While there's also an effort to improve li-ion batteries, these Cambridge researchers are saying lithium-air batteries have potential to be the 'ultimate' battery because they are lighter and feature higher energy density. However, a market-ready lithium-air battery could still be a decade away. The researchers' work didn't even yield a working lithium-air batt but they found out some hindrances are now open for discussion and can be dealt with.

A lithium-air battery, just a demonstrator, was produced. It can contain power but sadly, can't be cycled as frequently as current lithium-ion batteries. This one can cycle in pure oxygen only which makes it not so convenient. The Cambridge researchers explained, "The cells tolerate high concentrations of water, water being the dominant proton source for the LiOH.”  They built the battery in such a way that the lithium hydroxide (LiOH) becomes a discharge product instead oflithium peroxide (Li2O2) when experimenting with  (Li-O2 batteries).

Researchers explained that such battery  was composed of the following: graphene oxide electrode, lithium metal anode, lithium iodide (LiI) additive, and a dimethoxyethane solvent. The result: lithium hydroxide was formed and removed during charge and discharge.

Cambridge Department of Chemistry's Professor Clare Grey said:
“What we’ve achieved is a significant advance for this technology and suggests whole new areas for research – we haven’t solved all the problems inherent to this chemistry, but our results do show routes forward towards a practical device.”

Grey further said, “While there are still plenty of fundamental studies that remain to be done, to iron out some of the mechanistic details, the current results are extremely exciting – we are still very much at the development stage, but we’ve shown that there are solutions to some of the tough problems associated with this technology.”

The lithium-ion battery used as standard today is almost 25 years old. The technology can still be improved but a new battery technology is more than welcome.  The concept of lithium-air rechargeable battery is a great idea but scientists and researchers lobbying for this one must hurry. You know how everything in the tech business can be predicted, conceptualized, manufactured, rejected, and then forgotten. In this rapidly developing world, nothing is impossible now. You just have to be quicker than quick to thrive in whatever business you're in.

And this lithium-air battery? We'd better see the technology as soon as possible. A decade of waiting as the researchers mentioned is such a long time.

Thera are dozens of  mobile browsers available for Android but only a few can be considered really fast and efficient. Not many browsers offer solutions to every mobile user's mobile browsing needs. Entering the market that is saturated by the likes of Opera, Chrome, and Firefox browser, the RBrowser is ideal for devices than run Snapdragon processors. Yup, this Android app browser is optimized for Snapdragon-powered phones as developed by XDA-er magic_man who is listed as 'samfisher83' on Google Play Store.

The web browser features ad blocking and is believed to be really fast. It's even faster than Chrome and Firefox by 10 to 30%. The developer boasts that it's "snappier" to use. App has been available for testing since early 2015 but it's only this week the app was listed on the Play Store ready for the whole Android community.

Majority of the bugs encountered by those who tested the browser have been fixed already. If you have the earlier version already, make sure you delete or uninstall the app first before installing the new one. The earlier updates were released after feedback from the community were sent in. Good thing the developer was quick enough to release the appropriate bug fixes and enhancements. One example is the issue of uploading files not working at first release but was fixed already making the app really faster now.

A lot of employees resort to a certain hobby or method to help get rid of the cobwebs in their brains when they’re stuck with a certain problem or they’re in a creative rut. No, we’re not talking about playing video games or doing mental exercises. What we’re referring to is the simple throw crumpled paper onto a trash can. Well this trick just got a digital version and makeover with Trick Shot and it’s now available for Android devices.

This is a minimalist, physics puzzle game, and all you need to know as far as background goes is that you need to get that ball into the box. But as with a lot of these kind of games now, it’s never as simple as that. In fact, it can be crazily difficult. You also have to go beyond some of the obstacles placed around the box. You can also bounce the ball against some of the objects in that level to create a, you guessed it, trick shot.

The game has over 90 levels that you can try out, and the great thing is that there is no time limit. For some levels, you might have to repeat it several times before you get it right. You have limitless balls to try to get one in the box, whether it’s on the easy or difficult levels.

Baba giving Android gyan: Monopoly, Yahtzee can now be played on Chromecast

If you didn’t know yet that Chromecast is more than just for streaming your favorite movies and TV shows (and music for Chromecast Audio), now is the best time to find out. Popular game developer Hasbro has added Cast support for two of its titles, Monopoly Here & Now and Yahtzee Blitz. So now, you can enjoy the HDMI dongle as a sort of mobile gaming console for several games, including the aforementioned two that have become more than just popular tabletop games.

Monopoly of course is the game that first taught us how to become rich business moguls while Yahtzee showed us the power of the dice (and screaming out during the game). And now, you will be able to enjoy playing these games on a much bigger screen, and with other people to boot! While a lot of new mobile games are of course fun to play on your own, admit it, you sometimes miss having the social interaction from these games. So now, because of Chromecast, you can get the whole family or the whole party to play Monopoly and Yahtzee.

Baba giving Android gyan: Dolphin browser updated with Android Marshmallow support

We may have missed Dolphin v11.4 but the newest version since the v11.3 and v11.3.4 we featured last year added with the sweetness of Lollipop, the Dolphin v11.5.0, is now ready for download. This one features support for Android Marshmallow, as well as, fixes for certain issues with AdBlock, crashing, launching, and link redirection.

This update for the Dolphin browser was first released to owners of the Nexus 9, Nexus 7, and Nexus 5 earlier this month. The early tests helped the Dolphin developers discover more issues that fortunately, they have fixed before the public release this week on Google Play Store. This means app is now ready for the latest Android 6.0-powered devices like the LG G4, HTC One A9, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P among others.

The earlier version of Dolphin with Android Marshmallow experienced a number of crash issues that usually resulted from launching the app itself, browsing resource and data-intensive sites, and inputting text in address bar. The AdBlock feature was not available from the Control Panel even when Add-on was enabled already. Others experienced link redirection to the default browser currently installed on the phone.

Some users of Dolphin on Android M could not tab push after login and were experiencing Dolphin Connect login failure issues. More often than not, login were not successful as indicated by the dreaded circle looping infinitely. Some shortcuts that were supposed to appear just above the keyboard disappeared too. Last but not the least, there was a weird error when disabling permissions for location or stage.

Don't worry, all these issues we mentioned were already fixed so go ahead and try the latest version of Dolphin browser.

The developer made sure that the background music and sound effects are movie-quality. Story is even narrated by processional voice actors so you know this game was really well-planned.

Your main goal is to finish different missions of fighting against the enemies. If you're planning to finish all, be prepared to spend more than ten hours on special missions and immersive gameplay. On campaign mode, you might spend longer up to 20 hours. You need to develop your character by training and collecting all the gear, hi-tech body implants, and weapons you can manage to collect. All these things can be used in upgrading your personality. Develop your character by choosing from over 40 weapons from katanas to shotguns, and over 100 gear sets and body implants. You need those things because you'll be meeting zombies and cyborgs. Blood everywhere? Expect lots of it.
