Square Enix, famed makers of the legendary Final Fantasy series, have made some games that are only available in Japan. This is not strange, them being a Japanese company at the roots. One of those games was “Romancing SaGa 2”, a popular game in Japan and the fifth in the “SaGa series”, despite what the numeric suffix might suggest. The exclusivity has now ended, as the Japanese game makers have now made the game available on Android globally, with an English translation.

Romancing SaGa 2 was actually released in 1993, and this was exclusively for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System platform. The storyline follows Emperor (or Empress) of Avalon, as they seek to gain control the Empire. The gameplay is relatively familiar to anyone who has ever played an RPG before, and most gamers have.

The new Android port includes slightly updated visuals – although it remains true to the look and feel of the original. The gameplay has also been optimized for touchscreen operations. According to Square Enix, there are some minor adjustments to the game, the addition of new character classes, and a brand new mini-game.

If you’re interested in Romancing SaGa 2, the game is now available via the Google Play Store. The quality of the game is betrayed by the hefty premium pricing – you need to pony up USD$17.99 for it.
