Have any burning questions that only electronic devices can answer?

If the answer is "Yes, definitely," then you're in luck. The fortune-telling Magic 8 ball is getting a mobile update, intent on springing off of the Apple Watch's release on Friday

The iOS version of the classic toy, which was first manufactured in 1950 by Mattel, offers the same 20 phrases as the original, including "signs point to yes," "outlook good" and "cannot predict now." And just like the original, you'll be able to shake your iOS device or Apple Watch to trigger the answer.

Google's smartwatch platform Android Wear received its biggest software update to date on Monday as a part of a greater move to take on the Apple Watch.

And the update is a good one: there's more customization (new watch faces and bands), Wi-Fi support, hand gestures and an awesome feature that lets you draw emoji to send to friends.

While the news may not be revolutionary, it shows that Google is actively trying to improve the platform, which has received mixed reviews. Considering the Apple Watch will be shipping in a few days, now is the time for Google to ramp up its software. Read more...

This might sound confusing, but bear with us. OnePlus, which originally launched its OnePlus One smartphone in April 2014 as an invite-only device, is now making it available without an invite. However, the just-announced OnePlus 2 — yes, the One is spelled with letters and the 2 as a number — will be available only with an invite when it launches later this year

The bottom line: You can get the OnePlus One now without an invite, but you'll need an invite to get the OnePlus 2 when it debuts in the third quarter.

The One, marketed by OnePlus as a "flagship killer," runs the CyanogenMod OS, which is based on Android. The phone had touted top-notch specifications for a price of $299 — without a contract but with limited availability. Now, anyone can get one directly from OnePlus' website, priced at $299 for the 16GB model and $349 for the 64GB model. Read more...

Wallet? Check. Keys? Check. Phone? [Cue moment of panic as you rummage to find it]. Check. [Cue audible sigh of relief]. Our mobiles have become our trusty sidekicks, accompanying us anywhere and everywhere — they're almost like security blankets

And the numbers surrounding mobile use are, unsurprisingly, dauntingAs of January 2014, 90% of adults in the U.S. had cellphones, including a whopping 98% of 18-29-year-olds, the most robust contingent of smartphone users. These stats become even more significant when you consider just how we use our phones as a society, and the ways this has grown

Nokia, the Finnish manufacturer that sold off its devices and services business to Microsoft in 2013, is reportedly working on a new smartphone that will launch as soon as next year.

According to a Re/code report, the company is eyeing a return to the consumer phone market in 2016, although specifics on what it will look like and what it will run is unknown. Our guess: It'll be an Android phone, not a Microsoft-branded Windows device.

The report also noted that Nokia is experimenting with other tech projects, possibly even virtual reality Read more...
